The Hanover Co-op's desire to offer wholesome, fresh, and local foods in a welcoming, engaging, and community-centric environment is at the core of its recent renovation. Members overwhelmingly supported the $5.3 million expenditure to renovate its flagship store, including new, highly efficient fixtures, updating the heating and cooling systems, improving the traffic flow, upgrading structural components, and its overall appearance.

During construction, the 2,600 sf addition provided space for departments displaced by the on-going renovation while creating room for an expanded deli, cheese and charcuterie, accessible restrooms and customer seating areas.

The addition features a new entry canopy reminiscent of the slanted shape of original 1960's store. It is reinterpreted in a contemporary way with transparency that reconnects people to the street with an enlivened façade, covered plaza and pedestrian entry while providing filtered natural daylight. This renovation truly invites the community to experience and enjoy the Hanover Co-op.
