James R. Wasser

AIA, LEED AP - Principal

Jim is a founding and managing partner of SNAP with particular skills in sustainable design, code analysis, building assessment and feasibility studies, master planning, and all aspects of renovation work. This expertise is complemented by his ability to develop a close working relationship with clients, consultants, contractors and code officials to facilitate design, contract documents and construction. With over 30 years of design experience, both in New England and the Pacific Northwest (as partner in Richard Brown Architects, LLP), Jim’s work includes many of Studio Nexus’ large scale renovation and revitalization projects, with broad experience in a variety of commercial, institutional and residential building types.

Outside the office, Jim enjoys hiking, walking and exploring New England and beyond with his family and friends.

Jim received his Bachelor of Arts from Oberlin College and a Masters of Architecture from Harvard University Graduate School of Design. He is licensed in multiple states including Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Oregon and Washington.

Douglas John Sonsalla

NCARB, LEED AP - Principal

Doug is a founding partner of SNAP and treats each project with an opportunity for a new, creative expression balanced with simplicity to clearly express the client’s vision. Doug has over 20 years of experience constructing, designing and managing commercial and residential projects from Africa to the Midwest and New England. Doug also serves as a leader for numerous volunteer committees and boards in his community and throughout the Upper Valley.

Outside the office, Doug spends his time with his family enjoying outdoor activities such as rock climbing, swimming, fishing, kayaking, hiking, and mountain biking. He also enjoys traveling, painting, playing guitar and drums.

Doug received a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management from the University of Wisconsin-Stout and a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Minnesota. He completed a two-year Peace Corps volunteer service building schools and teachers houses in rural areas of Gabon, Africa. He is licensed in Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maryland.

William Nartowicz

LEED AP – Project Manager

William joined Studio Nexus in the fall of 2014, bringing his substantial organizational, managerial and technical skills to bear on the major projects SNAP has undertaken. With over 15 years in various design and engineering disciplines related to the construction industry, William has comprehensive experience preparing schematic drawings, construction documents and specifications. Well-developed technical skills in Revit, AutoCAD, Sketch up, and Photoshop, enable him to produce high quality presentations, renderings and 3D models. A forward thinking and energy conscious individual, he is guided by LEED, Net Zero, and Passive House building principles.

Outside the Office, William enjoys cooking, playing and watching his kids play hockey in the winter and traveling and gardening in the summer.

William received a Bachelor of Science in Architecture at Wentworth Institute of Technology.

Samuel (Mike) Purvis

AIA, NCARB, LEED AP – Project Architect

Mike joined Studio Nexus in 2019, bringing more than two decades of architecture experience, especially in custom residential design work and project management. Having run his own award-winning architectural firm for nine years and worked with others for nearly fifteen, Mike's professional expertise is diverse and extensive; it is complemented by his knowledge and interest in issues of sustainable design, building code and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). He has worked closely with the Department of Justice and the Vermont Access Board to address and correct accessibility issues. While with Design Build Studio Architecture he oversaw renovations, including accessibility and egress improvements of two Dartmouth College fraternities.

He excels at assisting residential clients in making informed decisions during the design process and working with the contractor during the construction phase to realize the vision and full potential of each project. He was the project architect for a contemporary-rural, near net-zero home on the Connecticut River, featuring a highly insulated, energy efficient building envelope, mechanical system and solar array.

Mike is proficient in AutoCAD and Revit. Outside the office he is an avid amateur photographer, a passionate skier, a tennis player and experienced soccer coach, player and fan.

Mike received a Bachelor of Arts from George Washington University and his Masters of Architecture from Catholic University of America. He is licensed in Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and New York.
