James R. Wasser

James R. Wasser, AIA, LEED AP - Principal

Harvard University Graduate School of Design, Master of Architecture
Oberlin College, Bachelor of Arts, English

Jim has over 25 years of design, technical and management expertise, with particular skills in sustainable design, code analysis, building assessment and feasibility studies, master planning, and all aspects of renovation work. This expertise is complemented by his ability to develop a close working relationship with clients, consultants, contractors and code officials to facilitate design, contract documents and construction. Of particular note was his time as a founding partner with SpringLine, LLC, a strategic facility planning and facility management firm, highlighted by his 6 month on-site consulting stint with Kimball Union Academy, where he prioritized construction and maintenance projects and developed strategies for implementation of their already numerous master plans.
Jim has extensive experience with a variety of commercial, institutional and residential building types. Most prominent among them is his work with food retail. He has designed, rehabbed, specified equipment and managed construction for more than two dozen major food stores, restaurants and a variety of other retail establishments. He has a wealth of experience in the industry and is thoroughly knowledgeable with the food retailing business--from fixture layout, to refrigeration design, to the mechanics of shopping. Much of that experience was gained through his work with two mid-sized regional, independent food retailers that specialize in organic, sustainable, and specialty foods; more recently his expertise has been tapped for award-winning projects involving two robust local food co-ops. These retailers share authentic commitments to build from the neighborhood up, to interact dynamically and cooperatively with their physical surroundings; and to use design as a primary component of the shopping experience.
