Hanover Co-op, Community Market

This project consists of a 5,500 SF community-oriented grocery store, replacing a small convenience store and service station well past its useful life. The site was completely reworked, parking was provided for 28 cars, and an efficient loading area was added to facilitate store deliveries.

The store contains 3,500 SF of retail floor area, along with store offices, a break room and storage, mechanical, and receiving space. Generous outdoor plazas at both the street side and parking lot entrances connect the building to the neighborhood and contain plenty of space for exterior retailing, outdoor eating and community gatherings.

The highlight of the sustainable effort is the geo-thermal heating and air-conditioning system. The building's energy costs are about 50% less than those with a conventional system.

This project was a joint-venture between Jim and UK Architects, PC.
